Art Exhibition PDF Print E-mail

There will be an art exhibition at the 15 ARSPC including aboriginal artwork from Central Australia and artwork based on satellite imagery.

Satellite imagery is a new and exciting way of looking and interpreting our planet, to discover new truths, like everything in life, there are no truths, just perceptions of what believe to be true, with the information we have at the time.

It is Art and science that helps us to get new perspectives and makes us less judgmental and more open to different truths.

As Socrates stated 2500 years ago,” Man must rise above the earth –to the top of the clouds and beyond, for only thus will he fully understand the world in which he lives.”

Now we have the resources to analyse and study so many more images of our world, with a battery of esoteric instruments from spectro-radiometers to synthetic aperture radars are used every day to give diverent perspectives of our world.

New theories and understandings will emerge to enrich our lives and challenge the truths we believe to be true.

The use of satellite images has informed my practice in a very different way although the works look very abstract they are in fact the most photo representational works I have done, the encaustic media allows for depth and interesting techniques to explore the reinterpretation of the images.

MBANTUA GALLERY & CULTURAL MUSEUM

Specializing in aboriginal art from Utopia in Central Australia for over 20 years, we have developed a wonderful rapport with the traditional people of Utopia. We began as an offshoot of Mbantua Store, a general store that is now part of Alice Springs history. For many years the store had a small aboriginal art section which became the foundation of our gallery.  Now we are the largest art gallery in Alice Springs and we are recognized worldwide.  We were chosen as the aboriginal art representatives for HRH the Prince of Wales' 2005 Australia tour and continue to work with documentary makers and journalists on aboriginal life and art.
